The 74 Whitsunday islands are located in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, off the coast of Airlie Beach in Queensland Australia. The islands are renowned for white beaches, clear ocean waters, coral reefs and an abundance marine life, making them a jewel in Australia’s tourism crown.

Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet (Swirly Sands)

On the eastern side of Whitsunday Island (the largest island in the group), Whitehaven Beach stretches over 7 kilometres. It features crystal-clear waters and pristine white soft silica sand. Untouched by humans, this uninhabited island is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventurers alike.

Hill Inlet is located at the north end of Whitehaven Beach. It is a stunning sand inlet that stretches almost to the other side of Whitsunday Island.
To get an accurate view of Hill Inlet, a Whitsundays Scenic flight is the only way to see the entire inlet and the best way to see the swirling sand effects the tides have on the white silica sands.

Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the planet’s most extraordinary natural wonders, stretching over 2,300 kilometres along the northeast coast of Queensland, Australia. This UNESCO World Heritage marine ecosystem is visible from space. It comprises thousands of reefs and hundreds of islands of over 600 hard and soft coral types. The Whitsundays and Airlie Beach are located within this region and are a gateway to exploring the reef’s fringing and outer reef.

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is a vital sanctuary for more than 1,500 species of fish, 200 types of birds, and around 30 species of whales and dolphins. It’s an essential sanctuary for countless species of fish, molluscs, birds, endangered dugongs and large green turtles. This rich biodiversity makes the reef a critical area for scientific research and environmental conservation efforts.

How Do I Make A Reservation ?

Whitsundays Scenic Flight Tickets can be purchased on this webpage. Click in any of the Book Now buttons and select your day and time of flight. Fill in the questions and make a secure online payment. Once payment is complete you will be emailed your flight ticket and all the information you need for boarding the plane on time.

What Airport Does The Scenic Flight Depart and Return?

Our 60 minute Whitsundays Scenic Flight departs from Whitsunday Airport at Flametree just 5 minutes drive from the centre of Airlie Beach.

Is There A Pick Up Service From Airlie Beach?

Yes, we have 2 pickup locations.

384 Shute Harbour Road – Airlie Beach Main Street – In front of Travel Shack
Pickup time is 40 minutes before your booked flight departure time Please be there on time as we do not wait if you are late, and you have to get to Shute Harbour Airport at your own cost.
For example, if your flight is 8am, you need to be at the pickup location by 7:20am
The van will be waiting on the main road outside of Travel Shack at Waterson Way

2. Port Of Airlie at Cruise Whitsundays Bus Stop

Meeting Time is 35 minutes before your booked flight departure time

For example: if your flight time is at 12pm, your pickup time at the Port of Airlie location would be 11:25

When you make your reservation you will be asked to pick one of these pick up locations or make you own way to the airport (need to be there 30 minutes before the scheduled departure)

If you have not selected a pickup during booking please let us know by emailing whitsundays@flyaus.com.au at least 24 hours before your flight so we can arrange the pickup service for you.

We will drop you back to the same pickup location in Airlie Beach after your scenic flight

I Have My Own Car, Can I Drive To The Airport?

Yes of course!! It is actually better if you drive to the airport yourselves if you have got your own car as there is a cafe just next to our office and you can enjoy a cup of coffee before or after the flights and there is a couple things to do around Shute Harbour after the scenic flight as well.

There’s plenty of parking just outside our office.

Our office is at 12 Air Whitsunday Road, Flametree, QLD 4802 just to the left of the coffee shop when you come to the airport.

Will I Get A Window Seat?

Yes, all our aircraft have a window beside your seat.

What Can I Bring On The Aircraft?

Only a small bag is allowed on the aircraft so please only take what can fit in your pockets.

There are storage shelves in over office you can put bags on for the scenic flight.

You don’t have to bring your passport for the scenic flight.

Weather in the Whitsundays

What If The Weather Is Bad?

Our scenic flight is weather dependent and If our pilots deem the weather unsafe to fly we will try to contact you 1 hour before your flight departure time and you will be offered a transfer of date and time or a full refund.

It is raining outside and I am wondering if my flight is going ahead?

I know sometimes you are worrying about the weather, our scenic flight around the Whitsundays covers a large area and the weather can be completely different than what is currently in Airlie Beach. But rest assure the team at Fly Australia are constantly monitoring the weather situation, if the weather we deemed not suitable for the scenic flight, we will try to contact you around 1 to 2 hours before your flight for the rescheduling or the refund option.

What if the weather on the day is not good?

The weather can be constantly changing in the Whitsundays area, especially during the wet season (December to March). And we cannot guarantee the weather. But rest assure the team at Fly Australia are constantly monitoring the weather situation, if the weather we deemed not suitable for the scenic flight, we will try to contact you around 1 to 2 hours before your flight for the rescheduling or the refund option.

Reschedule & Cancellations

What Is Our Whitsundays Scenic Flight Cancelation Policy?

Up to 24 hours before the scenic flight departure time will get 100% refund

Under 24 hours from the scenic flight departure time will not recive a refund

Transfer of dates and times can be done (if there is availability) at least 24 hours before the scenic flight departure time.

We can not transfer you date or time of travel within 24 hours of your flight.

How do i reschedule my scenic flight?

You can reschedule your flight anytime up to 24 hours before your scenic flight, and if you booked directly with us it is pretty simple. You can find there is a a change booking button on the confirmation email we sent you when you made your booking and you would be able to select the date and times you would like to change your flight to.

If you have booked your scenic flight through a third party agent (Viator, Tripadvisor, Get Your Guide etc.) Please contact them in order to make any changes to your booking.

When will I receive my refund after my flight has been cancelled?

Refund usually takes 3-5 business days to process.
If you haven’t received the funds after 5 business days, please get in contact with us.
If you booked the flight through an agent, please get in contact with them first as refunds will be coming from the booking agent.
